The rise against Cyber Bullying
I remember being twelve and having this odd vow of silence when being bullied. The bullying I went through is much different than the bullying kids go through now. I think bullying progressed in the worst way with the rise of technology, and social media. I was born with lazy eyes. I could see a field of vision that was vast which made me not have to turn my head when walking across the street. Luckily, the type of bullying I got was your average kind with the nickname fish tacked onto it. Most the bullying was not severe enough to make me want to end my life, or feel unsafe at school. However, I went to school during the rise of social media, and technology. I consider myself a cute squirrel in the jungle of school. I was average, and rarely had to deal with any difficult bullying aside from gum being in my hair, or so forth. The false impression we get from the internet is that we can say whatever we want with little to no consequences. We act as if the web is a safe heaven to our own rights. Yes, the web allows a lot of freedom with words, and what we want to say but what happens when people use it to hurt someone? What happens when words form actions, and these actions create a loss of life at a young age in our world? We can no longer allow silence as an action online. We can not sit back and watch people bully each other to no end, or to play out a role of someone who wants to hurt others.
ur world is derived of both a virtual, and real one. We have Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snap chat, and so many other places to divulge ourselves into. The reality is that these same sources can breed a lot of issues for children or teenagers. I remember hearing a story about an Instagram profile that represented other teenagers nudes that were shared with the wrong guy at a high school. I don’t know about you, but that sounds like bullying to me. I was so appalled that these teenagers were even dishing out nudes to began with that it dawned on me. I have only ever given one nude out. ONE. I bet it is the ugliest beast in the entire world, but if that one nude was displayed out into the world on Instagram I would probably want to kill myself. Let me explain how this little instagram worked, and why I feel it is much easier for bullying to occur. The instagram was set up an anonymous person who did not attend the high school at the time, but was a former graduate which made the owner of the Instagram involving himself with childhood pornography.
The basics of the site were that if any guy had nudes of a girl that did them wrong, or even a girl who done wrong by another girl, they could post them up. First, what disgusts me here is that the instagram would post them with nasty words about the girl’s body. These girls are still developing and it makes it very hard for them to trust that they are beautiful because of a stupid site. I must say the entire idea of the site disgusts me to no end. But what bothers me even more is that the girls were giving out these photos in the first place.
What makes it ok to allow a site like this on Instagram? How invulnerable does the web make people feel? I stand against cyber bullying in anyway. I just found this story so awe shocking that it makes me wonder what would’ve happened if these girls didn’t have such easy access to taking pictures? Would they be flashing the boys then? I mean…what makes it OK to believe once you give a picture of your full body to someone that they can pass it to all their friends, and so forth? I just can’t. It’s so hard to be a girl already in this world. We have so many expectations of what we should look like, of what we should do, and about how we should use our body that it makes me sad to see this kind of bullying on the web.
