Music is our outlet

Music is the rhythm of our hearts like sadness sings we use it to speak. Can you imagine a world where songs are never written, or people have never heard of prince? I think that would be a scary reality for me. So let’s discuss the drive music has, and how our music drives us through rough times like a tree branch floats in water. I’m a very emotional girl in ways that make people question my actions. I can stare into space looking like a sad duck but be in my own mind of thought thinking about my next story, or next writing topic. Most of the time I am hearing lyrics the back of my head like an unwelcome song. I’m often wondering why certain lyrics hold strong in our heads while others fade into the abyss like a dying star. People say the songs that stick in our brain are usually the most annoying, or the most meaningful. I find a very different cause for our remembrance of certain songs. The songs we hear on the top forty all have a generic trait to them. A beat that lingers in our brains like poison. I swear there is no reason we should have the song “ star boy” stuck in our head but we all do because the beat is senselessly addictive like magic. The worst songs in the world that have destructive meaning are often the most addictive to our brain because the producers know that certain melody’s will ring over and over in our heads. I like to call this playing to our sixth sense a little bit because we don’t realize our brain registers beats like we register numbers. We listen to music as a source of making our dull world sound louder. But have you ever sat in a car with only silence and another’s person’s voice as your noise? You may think that would be painful but the cut of music leaves room for conversation, and enjoyment. A few of my friends do this as a habit with me and I’m not sure if it’s cause they hate the music or because they enjoy me ranting like a crazy person I’m not really sure. I love the sound of voices talking or voices of friends singing songs without the song in the background. Music is a form of communication. We can communicate feelings through a beat, a sound, a voice, or even just a simple word. True musicians create music from thin air like a writer’s forms words on a blank page. I think I will share with you one of my favorite top forty songs on the charts at the moment because it may shock you. My favorite song is Heathens by Twenty One Pilots. Yes. Everybody will cry cause it was played on Suicide Squad but alas, I do not love that song for its connection to Harlequin. If you truly listen to the lyrics it has quite the meaning behind it. So let me start with the chorus of this song which starts kind of like a ballad as he talks about “ All my friends are heathens take it slow.” The word Heathens can mean a volume of things that can be interpreted differently across the board. At first we get the idea that he is talking about the outsiders of our world, or the outliers of our world. But if you think about it could be a warning to the fans who have become rude after “ stressed out “ came out. It fits both ways. The hearts of us who don’t follow mainstream bullcrap and the hearts of us that fall into the thick of it. They have been known to write their songs in response to other people’s actions. If you’ve been a fan from the song “ Ode to sleep, and Judge” you would see that heathens plays a large game off those songs.https://youtu.be/2OnO3UXFZdE https://youtu.be/PbP-aIe51Ek But anyways, the lines “ You don’t know the half of the abuse.” could refer to making fun of other fans is bad due to the unknowing scars that people have. We do not wear our scars on our sleeves which means it is not up to us to tease others. The message could also refer to bullies who target people when people have a weaker will. This can be a means of a way to try to stop that. In my eyes, the song portrays a beautiful message that isn’t sexually related, or even bad. It’s a song that relates to people’s behavior which should be listened to more. There is a few other songs I want to share as well here before giving you a close. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zno41UPR1D0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z9fGKx7yzF4 I think we need to spread more meaningful songs out there for our society to understand. It’s true we have top forty songs that don’t give us a proper mouthful of meaning but we can change that.
