Julia, My friend has a mom who takes in rescue dogs and tries to gear them up to being more friendly to humans. You can't force yourself on these dogs or try to walk right up to them. Some will be defensive others will be aggressive. I always believe in staying in a distance and asking about the dog first before I pet it. Thank you for writing this and I hope that people get wiser with how to treat dogs and pets soon. We are not the rulers of Earth and I think Covid has shown us that. <3
