I read the same book back when I was in sixth grade. I found the story horrifyingly satisfying as it told me that her success began the second she walked away from being sold for sex. In essence, you absolutely right. We chase the wrong desires. Many people will chase -distractions over education. They spend hours wasting away as I see it.
